This workout was designed specifically for building and developing the VO2 Max of beginning distance runners. Having a higher VO2 Max will allow your body to train harder and develop a more efficient cardiovascular system.

'We use a similar workout to prep and develop the elite athletes in the Mammoth Track Club in order to prepare them for the rigors of elite competition.' - Coach Kastor

This workout starts with a 5-minute warm-up of slow and easy running, then progresses into a series of alternating 30-second reps of hard and easy efforts and then capped with a 5-minute cool-down of slow running.
